Prop 65
If you need evidence that people are idiots, look no farther than California Prop 65. There is literally no one supporting Prop 65 - the website of the people who put it on the ballot now says 'Prop 65 No Longer Needed'. (They are supporting a replacement, Prop 1A, instead). With approximately half the votes counted, Prop 65 is pulling 39% of the vote. So there you have it - we can safely say that as a floor, at least 39% of Californians voted solely based on the four sentence summary that appears in the ballot, without doing a minute's worth or research beforehand. In reality, this probably implies numbers roughly double that, almost 80%.
At least this year Californians are merely proving themselves to be ignorant and not bigots - unlike 75% of Arkansas, 77% of Georgia, 75% of Kentucky, 59% of Michigan, 86% of Mississippi, 66% of Montana, 73% of North Dakota, 62% of Ohio, 76% of Oklahoma, 57% of Oregon, and 66% of Utah. (Of course, 61% of Californian voters were also bigots as of March 2000). Today is a true disgrace to this country.
